Modern Software Engineering in X++

The X++ development experience never stops evolving – are you up to speed on the latest trends? Between the ongoing improvement of developer tools, the advancement of version control technologies, the huge growth in Power Platform integrations, and the rise of fusion teams and citizen developers, the community is currently navigating a sea of change. Join Microsoft’s Ian Jensen for a live discussion of all of these trends and more!

As a new user, it can be intimidating to ask for help – not knowing where to begin, thinking your scenario is too specific, or worrying if it’s something silly like the “parking brake is still on”…but there are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issues yourself, as well as a wealth of information waiting to be mined.

We’ll walk through 5 steps to problem-solving in Flow, and also cover some specific and common issues faced by new users, and how to resolve them.

In the past, developers needed to first deploy a package to PROD, taking the environment offline, before running a script to correct data. Now, using a new Microsoft feature, developers can deploy packages that contain a custom X++ runnable job without needing to use LCS or taking the PROD environment down.

In this session, learn how to write and deploy a custom X++ script to a PROD environment with zero downtime. Additionally, learn what form and security roles your user will need to be able to perform these actions. As well as tips for making sure you are updating your data safely.

Extending GP functionality to fit exactly what you need has becoming increasingly more effective and efficient. This session will demonstrate some of the capabilities of a solution added to Dynamics GP. We will review how this can be done quickly and at a reasonable cost. We are finding cases were in the past installing an ISV or separate solution was more than needed, but now we can add the specific functionality needed at just the right amount of effort with an even greater result. Come find out ways to get more from your GP system and make user’s lives simpler.

Do you work with SQL? Do you ever play with Queries, Tables, Views, Stored Procedures, Excel Refreshable Reports, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or any other Database related tasks? Learn Tips and Tricks from John Arnold’s more than 25 years of experience that will help you be more efficient. You’ll learn new ways to find data, script your database, format GP’s really, really long queries and many other ways to simplify tasks in SSMS. I won’t show you how to write queries, I’ll show you ways to write them better.

In this session we will examine what functionality Extensible Data Security (XDS) provides, how to successfully setup and configure multiple real world end user scenarios, and the impact enabling this feature has on your user security. We will also discuss how this feature can help minimize risk within your organization and weigh that against the potential performance impact it can have.

Customization of Business Central is easy, right? So easy in fact, that there’s plenty of room for making mistakes. In this session, Erik will walk through several scenarios for customizations and show how to customize BC in a way that will be upgrade-proof and not break anything.

The low-code revolution continues, and more than ever, there is a huge demand for developers to get involved, particularly on the Power Platform side. But what does it take to become a developer? Do you need to know how to write code? What are the skills you need to excel?

In this interactive session, join me as I hope to provide an answer to these questions and more. We’ll look at the technologies you need to know, what a Power Platform Developer does and articulate some of the qualities that will help you succeed. If you are considering a career change, this is the session for you!

Microsoft MVP Mariano Gomez gives you a walk-through of the various tools and options available to both citizen and code-first developers looking to establish solid software engineering practices in their Power Platform practice.

Learn about Azure DevOps, GitHub actions, and the ALM Accelerator for Power Platform, get an introduction to co-authoring, deployment pipelines, Git, version control, and more.

Making Power Apps is fun and easy. And now instead of going back to your “old job” you want to go pro. In this session we’ll talk through concepts and resources to help you go pro.
