In a traditional Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS project, there’s often the need to interact with external SQL databases (Azure SQL or on-premises SQL instances) and for this task often a lot of work is needed in order to create an integration layer. Although you could use tools such as Azure Functions or App Service to build your own data API layer, this adds inefficiencies and increases your maintenance and testing requirements. Data API builder is a new tool that transforms your SQL Database into a REST API that you can use for your modern application in minutes without writing too much code. In this session we’ll see how you can use Data API Builder to expose external databases to Dynamics 365 Business Central in minutes (full database or parts of it) from any platform and how you can interact with the external database from AL code, all in a full REST-compliant and SaaS-compatible way.
